Being in the Moment with Brené Brown

This could be one of my worst pictures. Maybe ever.

But my shocked selfie hug with my idol is such a fun story of embracing (and not overthinking) unexpected moments.😉

Here’s what happened right before this pic was taken:

I was seated at my table at the inaugural Dare to Lead Facilitator certification training in San Antonio last week, up to my ears in content, my brain swimming with ideas of how to deploy it all, when a staff member came up to me and quietly asked me to gather my things and follow her.

Without a word, I did as I was told.

She led me over to Brene’ Brown and introduced me.

I was immediately rendered speechless. I took a step back.

“Oh my goodness, this is happening.” I heard myself say as people around us giggled at my awed look.

Still in shock, I turn and asked her,“Is this really happening?”

“Yes!” She bursts out laughing as she pulls herself in closer and puts her arm around me. “Yes, Christy, this is happening. Right now.”

And how right she was.

I have so much to share about my week learning from the foremost thought-leader in my field… so much content, new keynotes to offer, new workshops to deliver, new activities to layer into our experiential programs with clients. (So much so that both my head and my heart are quite full, in fact.) I was humbled to meet so many amazing leaders from around the world who welcomed me into their circle with grace and belonging.

But the best part?

The best part actually wasn’t the learning. It wasn’t the activities or even the conversations. It wasn’t about doing anything at all.

It was Being.

Being in the small moments. Drinking them in. Not thinking. Not strategizing.

Not Doing.

The best part, without a doubt, was simply being in the room with greatness. And it wasn’t just Brené, (although she’s pretty stinking great if I’m being honest😉), it was who she brought together.

Together, all of the people in that room truly embodied greatness.

Together, we will change the world.
